A Glimpse into Virtual Team Teaching
Virtual Team Teaching, is a method where two geographically separated teachers collaborate to engage their students in continuous shared learning experiences and lessons during a school year.
Unlike distance education, online courses, one time projects, and traditional classroom teaching, continuous use of Virtual Team Teaching uses digital and web-based tools to enhance the collaborative nature of effective learning. By starting with shared Common Core State Standard goals, the teachers develop lesson plans and specific learning activities for their students. The students, with teacher guidance, then adapt web-based tools to facilitate their goals and the learning activities. It should be noted that Virtual Team Teaching is often confused with team teaching at the same school, but is based on classrooms geographically separated. This undertaking involves two distinctly different grade levels, classrooms, school locations, and teachers that are working and learning together using web based tools. This is not a special project that is implemented once or twice a year. We have successfully aligned nearly all grade specific lessons and Common Core State Standards between our different classes. |
